Singaporeans Will Enjoy Riding in New Enviro500 Double-Deck Buses

A safe and reliable land transport network is an important enabler for Singapore’s growing economy. Bus services play a vital role in complementing Singapores Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and public transport operators like SMRT Corporation are looking into measures to ensure smooth bus services to commuters while reducing the environmental impact. Recently, LTA received 50 new Alexander Dennis Enviro500 double-deck buses. These new buses have entered services and Singaporeans will enjoy riding in these safe and environment-friendly buses.

LTA awarded Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) to supply double-deck buses with optimised passenger throughput. The design of these buses has been optimised to reflect the operational requirements of Singapores busy bus lines. The new Enviro500 buses:

Three passenger doors and two glazed staircases. One staircase is at the rear of the vehicle leading directly to the exit door.

Have fully step-free aisles on both decks to enable passengers to move around the bus freely.

The manufacturer, ADL, has relocated the engine and drive train components to the right rear of the chassis to enable a full low-floor design.

Are manufactured using the latest aluminium composite body technology.

Have a lot of safety and energy-saving features.

Have Passenger Information Display System and Electronic Display Sign.

Have an automatic passenger counting system, wheelchair bay and USB charging ports.

Are compliant with Euro-VI emission standards, the buses are equipped with

Have been painted in LTAs unified Lush Green base livery, with SGBUS decals.

Have collision Warning System and Anti Fatigue System to assist bus drivers.

The new double-deck buses have been allocated to bus operators SMRT Buses, SBS Transit, and Tower Transit. Earlier, 216 Enviro500 buses have been launched inSingapore and they are in operation now. SMRT Buses operates MAN A22 low-floor, wheelchair-accessible, single-deck buses. It also progressively installed buses with telematics solutions to encourage safe and eco-friendly driving. Commenting on its green mobility initiatives, SMRT Chairman, Seah Moon Ming, said: “As a responsible steward of the environment, we continue to strengthen our green mobility capabilities to bring value to all our stakeholders and support the Governments vision of a car-lite nation.”

Conclusion

LTA and public transport operators including SMRT Corporation and SBS Transit are working together to create a strong, diverse, and vibrant land transport ecosystem. As the new Alexander Dennis Enviro500 double-deck buses started operations, LTA got 50 buses, the MAN A95 (Euro 6) with 3Doors, from ST Engineering. A key segment of the private transport network, LTA is striving to digitalise and adopt innovative technology to ensure commuters enjoy a smooth commuting experience when availing bus services.
