Enhancing Daily Commutation Operations with Overwatch

Quite recently, SMRT has initiated an all-new support system called Overwatch to analyze the situation awareness and ensure the safety of passengers. Overwatch is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled support system that has already received the award for Operational Excellence at the prestigious UITP Awards in Barcelona in June 2023. This technically advanced support system has already been implemented on the Circle Line (CCL) of SMRT and will soon be deployed across North-South and East-West lines at the end of 2024. The technology has been introduced to provide real-time response of MRT trains to enrich a safe traveling experience for all. 

Minimizing Potential Impact on Daily Travel 

Officially launched by Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment & Ministry of Transport. Overwatch is an end-to-end train and commutation monitoring system launched by SMRT in coordination with Strides Engineering. It provides prior information about train congestions, delays, potential impact on commuters, and other real-time issues. The video analytics, live tracking, and visual along with auditory alerts of Overwatch, anticipate ongoing issues and abnormalities that allow the SMRT officials to fix problems in advance. With the introduction of Overwatch, SMRT is trying to reduce train delays, accelerate operational response time, and minimize commuter disruption at a large scale.
